3 Wheeled Buggies

Stability

With four wheels and a center of gravity that's balanced by weight of your child in the seat, 4-wheel buggies are generally thought to be more stable than 3 wheel pushchairs-wheelers. Look for a buggy with large rear wheels, and one that locks on the front. This will make it more comfortable to drive and less likely to snap apart on bumpy roads. A stroller with three wheels can be difficult to maneuver because of its wide frame. It is more difficult to maneuver through narrow spaces and doorways than a 4-wheeler. Some manufacturers have solved this issue by using a clever design which flips the wheels upwards when they are not in use. This reduces their size and makes it easier to fit through doorways.

It's also important to consider whether the buggy you choose to use is suitable for your child from birth, or if you're planning on using it in conjunction with an infant car seat or carry cot. Make sure that the buggy has a lie-flat feature and if it's compatible with a second seat as well as buggy boards, if you are planning to take an infant along. Many 3-wheelers fold flat and can be upright when folded which is useful if you have a a small car boot or limited storage space at home. Certain 3-wheelers require you to remove the front wheel to fold into smaller spaces.

Manoeuvrability

Three-wheeled buggies typically offer better manoeuvrability than pushchairs with four wheels. Many of them have a swivelling wheels on the front which allows you to steer and change direction with only one hand. Some models come with locks on the wheel to offer stability on rough terrain. Some models can be used with an additional buggy or seat, if you plan to expand your family.

If you plan to take your three-wheeled buggies off the roads that are asphalted it is recommended to choose an option with pneumatic tyres. They can handle even the most difficult terrain. These tyres may require regular pumping but they'll be more durable than tyres that are solid and are more likely to be puncture-proof. Choose a model that has a an adjustable swivelling front wheel that locks to assist you in maneuvering difficult surfaces.

When folded, three-wheelers can be more bulky than buggies with four wheels because of the single wheel in front. Be sure that the model you choose can fit in the boot of your car and can be set up upright if needed. Some models can fold in one hand and stand on their own when collapsed, which can save space in boot spaces that are smaller.

A quality three-wheel pushchair will take on any terrain from busy streets to forest tracks. It's important to consider how you will use it every day. If you're planning to run the school run, it must be able to handle steep slopes and kerbs. If you intend to jog on it, ensure it has a swivelling "stretch front wheel' that is locked. This will help keep the ride in place.
