Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.

For instance an item with the upgrade items template that is ending in % will suffer 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons and armor in order to give them a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. These can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must have been at the very least upgraded to blue level for a component to be used. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a particular kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment and some of the items that are not ascending back. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging ascended gear or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can be prefixed or a suffix changing the name of the equipment with which it is used (for example "Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of that equipment using fewer Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A boost upgrade is a way to alter the defense or attack attributes of a weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. They can also be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or by buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals.

The player is able to have the maximum of five boost upgrades at one time. Each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of the item will appear in the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their equipment even if they are unsure how much it will be improved after an update.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process could be costly and there is a high possibility that the item will become obsolete or even break if it fails; a unsuccessful upgrade could cause the destruction of the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items to double or even eliminate chances of failure, as well as some upgrades that offer an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade parts which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs increase the power of nodes within a radius, which includes any pre-existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways, and we recommend getting them to level 15 as soon as possible.

Each Glyph has a certain range of values that it can improve a statistic by, and the value is shown when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can choose to replace it with a different Glyph of the same rank or higher rank, which will increase the value of the Glyph.

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of a Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain tools for gathering unlimited use, and through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt could drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

After you have acquired the desired Glyphs you'll require them to be put on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes in a radius surrounding the Glyph. Based on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Utilizing the Glyph will boost all the nodes that are connected to it, so you should aim to place your Glyphs near key nodes on the Graph to maximise the impact. Druids, for example should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also want to consider placing them near their critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to improve the performance of specific items by putting upgraded components in them. This is known as "upping". Every upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of 385. Each item level requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained from finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or bought from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used for leveling up an Best item upgrader. Once enough points are earned, you will be able to claim your upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When an item is upgraded by a player to a higher level, the original item is replaced with a different item of the same type. This means that the same armor piece will get the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item also comes with its own set of bonuses. This could be a disadvantage since the item may increase in price even if you don't need it.

If the player has enough tokens they can reroll item upgrades. The item will be replaced by an entirely new item that has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. This is useful for certain items, but it's not something that should be done regularly, as it can waste a lot of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled multiple times which increases their value and giving players the ability to alter their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it gives a buff if the player repeatedly enters or exits water. This item can be upgraded several times and increases the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is highly useful in PvP. A perfectly rolled version could be worth 50 times the value of the unupgraded counterpart.

Requirements

Item upgrading allows players to upgrade the level of their equippable gear--armor, weapons and trinkets over ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate currency and items to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrading armor set pieces will also increase the base defense of the item, and upgrading weapon equipment will increase the base damage and required strength and dexterity to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.

All items can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception of hero gear which can be upgraded with eight upgrades. Every when you upgrade an item upgrader mod, it has an opportunity to fail. The failure rate increases the more you go over the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures will cause the item to revert to its original state, requiring the player to spend more materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades.

The item will also lose any bonuses it earned like chances to be crit attack damage, additional effects (such as a higher healing rate over time, or the speed of reloading).
