There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing issues and an increased global demand.

Our service provides private ADHD treatment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of one prescription.

A thorough evaluation of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by an experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your examination, you will be informed whether medication may be beneficial in your particular situation. This will take place during your follow-up appointment (which can be done in person via video link or by telephone). Your physician will go over the various options for medications available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will offer you to titrate your dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process can take several weeks, and involves gradually adjusting your child's dosage until the right balance is reached. It is not unusual to need to adjust three or four medications before determining the most effective one for your child's adhd titration private symptoms. It is important that parents participate in the titration and be on the lookout for their child's behavior, so they can let the doctors know if the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

Unless you have decided to return to NHS care the medication you take will be provided with a prescription from a private pharmacy that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You must keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medications. This includes blood pressure and pulse measurements. Annual exams are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed, you'll be able to make appointment with the psychiatrist, as necessary. The appointment will usually be conducted by video conference using zoom. However, in some cases, it may be possible for an audio-only appointment to be scheduled (again at an additional cost).

We will then go over treatment options and decide on an individualised, bespoke ADHD medication titration. This will include a review of your medication dose and a discussion around any side effects you might be experiencing. The cost for these titration sessions is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or phone video consultations. The pharmacy will be charged for any cost of medication.

The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family history and the impact that your ADHD symptoms impact your life, as well as any issues with relationships you may be experiencing or other mental health issues you may be suffering from. This is because ADHD can be an inheritable condition, and it is essential to examine any family history that could indicate whether you are at risk of developing the disorder.

It is important to be honest and truthful with your doctor during the assessment, since the information they get will be used to determine if your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria. This is a crucial step in the process as failing to do so could result in an incorrect diagnosis and consequently an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you decide to receive treatment for ADHD We'll set up an appointment for a follow-up visit with a psychiatrist who is specialized in this area. This can be scheduled at the time of your diagnosis if want to start treatment right away or within two weeks if want to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the options that are available to you.

If you're not sure what you would prefer, we suggest that you talk to your GP prior to booking your private appointment as certain providers have different policies regarding whether they require an GP referral letter or not. Find out if your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic for prescription medication.

Medication

The medication process is an essential element of the process for many people who are looking for an official ADHD diagnosis. It can be difficult to get prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Requesting your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). This means that you can choose one that provides an assessment and titration. This can reduce your wait time by a significant amount and is more convenient if you are working and have a hectic schedule.

Once you have been recommended by this method your chosen doctor will examine you and decide whether or not you need to be titrated on medication. You'll have to fill out forms that vary by doctor however the most commonly used ones are self-reporting forms and medical histories dating back to childhood and adulthood. These will help your clinician identify any factors that might indicate that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medications if they are prescribed.

If you are being titrated, the medication will consist of stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. They will be tested and monitored to find the most suitable combination for you. The process of titration adhd medication can be long and could require a few extra appointments before you're able to stay on your dosage.

Depending on the kind of medication you are taking, follow up appointments will be either monthly or quarterly.
