In the field of linguistics, DCT is among the most effective tools used to study the behavior of communication learners. It can be used to investigate various issues such as politeness, turn-taking, and lexical choice. It can also be used to assess the phonological difficulty of learners' speech.

A recent study utilized a DCT to assess EFL students' ability to resist. The participants were given a list of scenarios and asked to select an appropriate response from the options offered. The participants were 46 CLKs of upper-intermediate level who responded to MQs, DCTs and RIs. They were also asked to consider their evaluations and refusal performance in RIs. The results revealed that CLKs are more likely to defy native Korean pragmatic norms. Their choices were influenced by four factors such as their personality and multilingual identities, their current lives and their relationship affordances. The MQ data was analyzed first to determine the participants' actual choices. The data was categorized according Ishihara (2010)'s definition of pragmatic resistance. Then, we compared the choices with their linguistic performance using DCTs to determine if they were a sign of a pragmatic resistance. The interviewees were asked to explain their choices of behavior in a given scenario.

The findings of the MQs and DCTs were then examined using descriptive statistics and Z-tests. The CLKs were discovered to use euphemistic terms such as "sorry" or "thank you". This could be due to their lack experience with the target languages, which led to an insufficient understanding of the korean pragmatic norms. Recent research attempted to answer this question with various experimental tools, including DCTs MQs and RIs. The participants were comprised of 46 CLKs, 44 CNSs and 45 KNSs from five Korean universities. Participants were required to complete the DCTs and MQs in their L1 or L2. They were then invited to an RI, where they were required to reflect and discuss their responses to each DCT situation.

The results showed that, on average, the CLKs rejected native-speaker pragmatic norms in more than 40% of their responses. They did this despite the fact that they could create native-like patterns. They were also aware of their pragmatic resistance. They attributed their decision to learner-internal factors like their identities and personalities as well as multilingual identities. They also referred external factors, like relationship benefits. They outlined, for instance how their interactions with their professors helped them to perform better in terms of the linguistic and social standards of their university.

However, the interviewees expressed concerns about the social pressures and penalties they could be subject to if they violated the local social norms. They were concerned that their native interlocutors might perceive them as "foreigners" and think they were ignorant. This will help them better understand the effects of different cultural environments on the behavior of students and classroom interactions of students in L2.
