How to Replace an audi car key Replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and could indicate chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper timing chain. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging because there are two connector pins, and they serve different purposes but the best method to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is functional, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, I experienced a big cut in power like the engine is out of gas or the injectors aren't firing anymore. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When i crank the engine with no sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got 0ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much eliminated everything else. But i am afraid I may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. Test them out to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, audi keyless go or a misfire while in gear. It is likely that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. They're cheap and easy to find especially if they're an Bosch sensor like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this part is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a variety of issues in your car. It is a crucial part of the audi a1 key replacement's transmission as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

happy-smiling-woman-with-car-key-driving-2022-11-17-00-15-14-utc-min-scaled.jpgThe G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate the amount of fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a typical component across the audi q5 key 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones could be available in wrecking yards.
