How to Replace an audi lost key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test because there are various pins on the connector, and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is functional, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector Audi key fob Replacement cost bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole and when I start the engine without sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one remains closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car can start if the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is connected but it still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when unplugged, still shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. Testing them is easy to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of fuel injectors, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.

Some of the symptoms of a failing G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal, and/or a misfire when you are in gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues it is likely your sensor is deteriorating and requires replacement audi a3 key. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially if they're an Bosch model like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this component is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be a cause for numerous issues in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your Audi Q7 Replacement Key, as it transmits information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine is spinning. When this sensor fails, it will affect the performance of the transmission, as well as the other car's components.

woman-showing-the-car-keys-2022-12-16-22-09-32-utc-min-scaled.jpgThe G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate fuel and boost, and also timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those points. This is a common feature across the audi etron key 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 Du You may also find them in wrecking yards.Subaru-logo.png
